George Carlin
Monday, June 23rd, 2008Counterculture comedian Carlin dies at 71

George Carlin is was a genius. Of all the people in the entertainment/broadcast industry he was the number one person I looked up to, was influenced by, and is probably the sole reason I chose a career in radio. Only 2 blogs ago I wrote about the loss of Tim Russert, one of the people I admired most in broadcasting. Take his influence times 100 and thats what Carlin meant to me. He had an understanding of language, the written word, and culture like no one ever. Carlin was funny but he never really told a straight up joke. The reason he was funny was by helping us see the obvious in life and pointing out the absurdity in the details of it all.
Don’t worry Mr Carlin, I won’t shed a tear today. Just like you would have wanted. “I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts…” LOL

Thank you for your comedy, for your insight, for making us laugh, and for making us think. You will be missed more than words can say.
