Yo Gabba Gabba

I want to apologize for not being more current with my blogging. To be honest, I’ve been very distracted lately and haven’t spent that much time on the computer.

That dang tv keeps sucking me in. Normally that’s the status quo around the Spurr house but lately it’s been without my consent. I’m practically like that little girl in Poltergeist.

My son Jackson Jr is 2 years old and has discovered the joys of television. I’m very proud of the boy. Like most youngsters his age he finds a favorite show and is passionately loyal to it.  We watch that show or dvd and only that show. His tastes have evolved from an early Elmo obsession to Curious George to his most recent fixation with Disney-Pixar’s Cars. Oh that Lightning McQueen. I’ve literally seen that movie 50 times if I’ve seen it once. Then suddenly 2 weeks ago Cars, while still cool, took a back burner to a new show. Jr hasn’t fully abandon his love for the gang in Carburetor County but this new show is slowly taking over not only his life but mine too. This show is pure evil.

Yo Gabba Gabba is not just a show for children but rather like some sick plague broadcast to take over the minds of the masses like in the *obscure reference* movie Videodrome. This show shouldn’t be on Nickelodeon but rather buried late at night on the Cartoon Network for the same crowd that thinks you should listen to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon while watching Wizard Of Oz. Check out just the show open:

This is for kids? Seriously? I thought I was back in the college dorms around 4am on a Saturday night after watching that one. Yo Gabba Gabba is intense. It’ll suck you in and won’t let you go. No matter what your age. My boy wants to watch that dvd over and over again. I never say no. Why? Because it’s got me too. We can’t stop watching. It’s absurd what goes on in that show, yet it won’t let you stop watching.

I’m sure their intentions were good. They try and teach kids values like sharing, friendship and the like. But instead they’ve gripped our household in a hypnotic digital full nelson and I just want Gabba to let go and let me take a breath.
