Fever Cured

It’s all better now. Sunday evening marks the conclusion of these Olympic games. Just in time as my nasty case of the Olympic fever was finally cured this morning with my own personal triumph and appearance on the medal stand in men’s basketball.
Team USA won the gold medal beating Spain 118-107. After being embarrassed in Athens 4 years ago America finally gets call themselves the best in the world. The press has nicknamed the squad the ‘redeem team’.
To be honest, I could care less. Basketball is an American invention. We’re supposed to be the best at it. The fact that we haven’t been on the international stage recently is precisely the same reason the NBA has become a shell of its former self too. So to finally get our crap together and play like a team is not something to be celebrated, it’s to be expected. It’s your job. Stop showboating and just play the game. Finally, in 2008 they figured it out. Whatever.
That being said, today I salute the 2nd place team. Stand up and cheer for your 2008 Silver Medal champions of the world, led by my doppelganger Pau Gasol from Spain. Viva España!
Yup, my twin got us some hardware. Gold is gaudy. Silver is sharp and distinguished. When we stood on that medal stand today after netting 21 points and 6 rebounds and pushing the more talented US squad to the brink, it felt great. No one thought we could do it. We had even pulled to within 2 points at 91-89 with 8:13 remaining in the 4th. But perhaps it just wasn’t meant to be this year. Nonetheless we made Spain proud and helped put a fitting end to two weeks of sporting craziness.
Wow. I don’t know who to thank. Who would have thought this could ever happen to a guy who looks like me. To say it’s an honor is the understatement of these games. Look how happy Pau Gasol is in that pic. Now I truly know the meaning of the word Olympian. Or Pau Gasol does. I get confused.
Fever cured.
