For Here Or To Go?

I noticed something weird I do yesterday while grabbing lunch at the local fast food establishment. Perhaps you’ve seen this or do it too.

I went to the drive-thru instead of entering the restaurant. After paying for and then receiving my food I then pulled my car off to the side and proceeded to eat my lunch. Half way through my chalupa I noticed that there were 4 other vehicles parked around me with gentleman also sitting there eating lunch. Why? Why were they and why was I eating lunch in the car? We sitting only yards away from an empty restaurant filled with beautiful and clean tables and chairs. I do this all the time. At first I began doing it because I was finding it difficult to drive with my knee while applying hot sauce to my burritos or ketchup to my fries. Now the parking lot has become dining room. It makes no sense.

I think that there are two possible explanations to the trend that you have started to notice. The first is that society has become so lazy that we can’t even get out of our vehicles when plan to eat the meal on the grounds of the establishment we’ve purchased the meals from. OR we are so self-conscious that we don’t want anyone to see that we are eating alone or what it is that we are eating. This would make a great psychological study! Personally, I’m leaning toward the first explanaton.

I found myself doing this because I like to spend alone quiet time listening to the bee! The restaurants can sometimes get noisy and I just want to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the office.

I believe this trend has been established to keep up with the fast paced life we all seem to be living. If you go to fast food you are usually in a hurry. If you go in you relax a little and maybe take longer with your meal then when still in your car.
