A Touch Of Class

The Spurr family is about to be living large. The above picture may not look like much to you but to me it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. I don’t wanna brag but, I’m about to get a paved driveway.
I have yet to live the American dream of being a homeowner having rented more apartments than I can remember. For some reason I always end up in a place with the stone driveways. Even though I was fortunate enough to find a rental in a residential neighborhood in the suburban paradise of Ogden last fall, again I found myself singing the unpaved driveway blues.
Stone is so inferior to asphalt. It’s winter 6 months a year around here. Ever try shoveling down to the ground with stone? It just doesn’t happen. Ice and snow accumulate pretty fast. Last winter my driveway ended up about 5 inches higher than the road. To further my frustration with the stone, it turns out most childrens toys with wheels don’t respond well to the rocky surface. Jackson Jr is 2 and has lots of trucks and cars he likes to play with, not to mention the cozy coupe.
Well, I got a letter this week from the landlord saying the asphalt is coming in August. We’ll finally be living the good life. All I need now is a garage and a giant screen door. Then maybe Newman, Bird and Haus will come over for a visit.
