Spurralike Vol. 2

They say imitation is the ultimate form of flattery. It wasn’t too long ago that I had to set the record straight regarding my non-involvement in the freecreditreport.com commercials. Now the emails continue to come in from people wishing me good luck in the NBA Finals Game 3 tonight. At least this time I being confused with a big time athlete. No, I am not LA Lakers star Pau Gasol. Although I am flattered at his attempt to copy ‘the Spurr look’.

Some would say ‘the Spurr look’ is disheveled, unkempt, dirty, or swarthy. It is none of the above. It’s not an easy look to pull of and that is why sometimes those who rock it well can be confused with one another.

I call it ‘the Spurr look’ but it is in fact called something else. The Crockett. Don Johnson played TV’s favorite vice cop Sonny Crockett and first pulled off the look and really brought it to the mainstream in 1984. It was then that a young Jackson Spurr vowed to one day carry on its tradition when and if its founder ever became irrelevant and moved on to doing a buddy cop show with Cheech Marin on CBS Saturday nights.

It is now become both honor and burden for me to carry forward. People are always asking, “Just wake up?” No! Did you? Or they’re all, “don’t get dressed up on account of me”. I did and next time I won’t.Look around you and you’ll see ‘the Crockett’ everywhere. We may even form a softball team and move to Newmerica. One email I got called us “Sprralikes”. BTW, thanks Terry, real nice of ya.
